Yeah, well, maybe it is okay for the MusicNet building to fall into the sound after all. Yup, you guessed it, Real Networks doesn’t think I have enough experience. Gee, never heard that one before. Maybe next time they’ll be considerate enough to look at my resume and reject me before they schedule the interview. Just a thought.
So, since I didn’t have an interview this morning, I visited Peggy (my fav recruiter) in her downtown office and we talked shop about what other angles I can work on this whole job search thing. Also had lunch with Carrie and got to check out the awesome view from her corner office in Rainier tower! Okay, so it’s a conference room she’s camped out in – but the view is still incredible! Also tried to visit Adobe, but the recruiter was out of the office. So I just drove around Freemont a little, whimpering, and then came home. As always, I’ll keep ya posted.
I know, I know! It’s been forever since I’ve updated anything. It’s been a busy month, alright?
Sent Danielle home on a plane last weekend, and Christian’s first week in Seattle is treating him well. He has a part-time job at a schmancy athletic club, and has already changed his hairstyle once. I think he’s even adjusting to our driveway… Sasha came up from Corvallis (OR) for the weekend, and brought Rachael, Annie and Jackie with her, for a fun-filled weekend of shopping and cheesy tourist things. It was great to see Sasha, and to meet her friends! Come back anytime! Pictures are forthcoming, as soon as I get some time this week. Why am I so busy this week, you ask? Well, could be cause I have an interview with Real Networks on Thursday morning (thanks Jason!). Totally excited. It’s a great position for me, and a year contract (longer than most) at an awesome downtown location – actually, the other end of the building MusicNet is in. So maybe I don’t want that building to fall into the sound after all… 😉 Anyway, wish me luck! It’s totally a fortuitous happening – I had asked for Thursday and Friday off several weeks ago in the hope that I might be able to use the days for an interview, or at least to walk into some offices. Then out of the blue Monica emails me yesterday (Monica works for SnowDogs, a consulting firm in Belltown that I’ve been on with since May) and wonders if I’m available Thursday morning. So of course I told her, “no way, I’m on vacation that day, I was going to sleep in.” … NOT. Anyway, definitely a visible hand of fate stirring the pot here, or something. I’m trying not to get so freakishly excited about this one – I seem to get burned that way. I’ve got some studying to do this week to make sure I’m ready, so the pictures of this weekend might not be up for a few days. I’m sure you all understand. 😉 I’ll keep ya posted.
THEY MADE IT! Christian and Danielle are finally here – I’m so excited! Christian has way too much stuff – I don’t know where we’re going to put it all – and I have way too much stuff that I’m trying to send home with Danielle – the flight attendants are going to hate her – and we all ate way too much chinese food last night… all in all, I think this is going to be way too much fun! Mark this day on the calendar, folks, ’cause from here on out everything’s going to be a little bit different! And I can’t wait!
Happy February! What’s happy about February, you ask? Well, it certainly isn’t me trying to type February! Augh! Who thought of that name?
Christian gets here in less than a week, and Danielle with him. I made 200 bucks on ebay this week which was supposed to be fun money for then, but I spent it on other stuff – oh, well! It’s just money, right? Work is sucking today, as always. I really want to ask the guys moving furniture next door how much they get paid – they seem to be having a great deal more fun. Sent out some more resumes this week, no bites yet. I found another position at MusicNet that sounds cool, although it’s on a contract basis. I still like the company; what I really like about them is that they’re hiring…
Plans for the weekend include a superbowl party @ Lindsay’s (oh, and Adam lives there, too, and Shadow) and some heavy-duty reorganizing at home with Josh, trying to make room for our houseguests. If we could think of a catchy name, we’d open a B&B.
Okay, I didn’t get the job. They emailed me (cold, eh?) after I inquired over the phone, saying they are going to keep looking. No reasons why I wasn’t their choice. BTW, “they” is MusicNet, a spin-off of Real Networks with an office downtown. Actually, in Belltown, right on the water. But it doesn’t matter now, because they rejected me, so screw them and I hope their office falls into the sound during the next earthquake. Except for Jason’s cubicle, or maybe he could be at lunch or something. Anyway, so my new policy on this subject is that I’m gonna just tell you guys this stuff up front, instead of keeping it a secret. I was kind of worried about people at work seeing it before I’d had a chance to explain, but I figured out this week that (1) nobody at work reads this except for the people that I’d already tell, and (2) everybody at work but my boss basically finds out anyway. So from now on, I’m not worrying about it and I’m just gonna post whatever news I get.
So, what is the plan now? Well, I’m going to go to allstate today and make my best effort to not be totally bummed. Then I’m going to pick up Josh at the airport tonight, and spend the weekend catching up with him and cleanup up the house to make room for our impending houseguests. And then before Monday, I’m going to fix all my job-posting-site emails so that I’m receiving postings every day, and start reading the Times, and basically just get back into the whole job search thing. I guess this was my wake-up call that it’s been long enough and I should start looking again, but maybe next time the wake up call could be a little less harsh, eh?
What a great week! It’s been busy and exciting this week – Josh will be sorry he missed it all, being in ho-hum Chicago all week. 😉 Lots of assorted madness, and some of the best stuff is classified until further notice, but I promise you’ll all be the first to know. So, yeah, in thinking about it I really can’t tell you all that much. But just suffice to say that I had a good week. ;-D In other news, Annie got a job (yay for Annie!), Mike’s car broke down (sucks, Mike!), Carrie’s sisters came to town (hide your sons, Seattle!) and we had a lovely martini party Friday evening with a small group of unassuming guests. And Christian and Danielle will be here in 21 more days!
Now for some interactive news. I’m feeling creative and wanna hype up the site a bit. This requires some feedback from my readership (both of you!). I’m pondering making the news interactive – giving you a chance to add your thoughts, disagree, tell me what a dork I am, etc. Whattaya think? Also, am I the only one who thinks the photo section is totally disorganized and it’s impossible to find what you’re looking for? What would make more sense? Strict chronological? By geography? All the blackmail material grouped together? Any opinions? Thanks!
Okay, it’s Friday again. Another week gone by. I don’t have nearly as much energy to burn this week. I’m doing fine, life is good, job is ‘eh’. Putting Josh on a plane tomorrow for his two-week trip to Chicago. Also, the cable modem tech from at&t should stop by this weekend and make that stupid thing finally work. Oh, and Verizon fixed my cell phone (actually, they gave me a new one) so I can send text messages back to you now. It’s pretty neato – I’m already driving most of my local friends crazy with it. Other than that, not much in the way of news… at least, that I can tell you about here 😉 But I promise that as soon as the lottery announces the winners, the book deal goes through, I join the Evil Empire, or I get selected for the Real World, I’ll let you all know first.
Put in on your calendars – February 9th! Christian is moving to Seattle! Yeah! I’m so totally jacked about this – he’s going to crash with Josh and I for a while, so all his fans that want to visit can start lining up on our front porch in the next few weeks. He’s never been here – and never seen the ocean! – so we’ll be spending some time introducing him to my favorite city! Only four short weeks!
